Geopolitical Dystopia

Originally written on June 24th, 2016

Given the success of Brexit and the possible domino effect (Nexit-Holland; Frexit-France; Matteo Salvini asks for the exit of Italy; Scotland asks for the independence again; the 2 Irelands could reunify), I wanted to take the opportunity to publish a page entitled "The Future" that I wrote on March 4th, 2015 (date of the last modification). Part of what I wrote seems to becoming true, but it is important that, as you read, remember:

  1. I'm no expert in neither politics nor economics;

  2. It was supposed to be the end chapter of a fantasy novel (the protagonist breaks the space-time continuum, and, while he remains locked in time, the news announced, in a single edition, months and years);

  3. I wrote it during a period of physical illness while I was studying a book of history and politics for the exam of Cultural History;

  4. At that time, the Greek economic crisis and the independence of Scotland and Catalonia were topical issues;

  5. When I dream or imagine something, I do it big. So some of these "predictions" are exaggerated and reckless.

  6. Please, DON’T CANCEL ME over this script. I was an ignorant dreamer with some kind of Utopia in mind. I’ve better informed myself and now I see why all of this would be impossible.

    That said, here is the page:

"It all started with Italy. The financial crisis had lasted long, and politicians were always in disagreement. In the end, the League made the secession. The South Italy (from Emilia Romagna to Sicily) decided to return to the Lira (old Italian currency). Northern Italy (the Padania Nation) acted militarily and conquered the Italian Switzerland, because of the tax evaders, so that they were forced to record the money deposited in Swiss banks. Greece, seeing the return of the Lira, decided to solve its crisis by returning to the Drachma. Austria, seeing the conquest of Italian Switzerland, took advantage and conquered Liechtenstein and German-speaking Switzerland, to expand, before Germany could do it. Immediately, France conquered Monaco and Switzerland Romandy, and Spain conquered Andorra. Meanwhile, South and North Korea were able to reach an agreement and reunified. Immediately, in the United States of America, South and North Carolina united, as well as South and North Dakota. Their flags were simply merging the old flags (north flag over, and south flag below). To avoid having to remove 2 stars from the flag, the United States welcomed the US Virgin Islands and the American Samoa. Meanwhile, Northern Ireland had some disagreements with the United Kingdom, and decided to take a series of agreements and compromises with the Republic of Ireland. In the end, it separated from the United Kingdom and Ireland was reunified. As a result, Scotland tried the independence again, and, this time, the Scots voted in favor. The United Kingdom remained with only England and Wales. The Union Jack lost the blue and the cross (and the rectangles below became green) and Scotland, seeing the return of the Lira and Drachma and having no permission to use the British Pound, decided to create the Scottish Pound, which symbol was an S with horizontal line and which value was constantly the arithmetic average between the British Pound and the Euro. Thus, even Catalonia tried again and it became independent from Spain (and kept Andorra). However, it did not last long, and it reunified with Spain. Even the Padania Nation decided to reunite with Southern Italy, and Italy, to celebrate the end of the crisis and the reunification, built a drawbridge over the Messina Strait (who would have thought?!). However, some Sicilian Mafia, in revenge for the construction of the bridge, infiltrated among politicians and pushed them to conquer Malta. Some former members of the League followed them, and conquered San Marino. Meanwhile, to follow the example of Scotland and Catalonia, Alaska decided to use the money of the Alaskan Permanent Fund and bought back its independence from the United States. To celebrate, it did like Italy: it built a drawbridge over the Bering Strait. The United States officially welcomed Guam. Corsica also sought independence, and succeeded, until it was conquered again by Italy.".

(It's interesting to notice that I forgot West Virginia, my prediction of Hillary Clinton, the first American Woman President, and of the first Homosexual American President, and that I went way over-the-top with secessions and reunifications).
